CES continues donating to the Sullivan County SPCA
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, especially non-profits. With less money to go around it’s so important that companies continue their charitable contributions as best they can. Combined Energy Services is proud to be able to continue its tradition of donating to the Sullivan County SPCA.
This year’s $4,000 fuel donation will help keep all the fur babies at the shelter warm and alleviate the unnecessary worry of heating fuel bills. Shelter manager Debbie with a few of the many adoptable pets accepts the donation from delivery driver Lee, who happens to drive the Sullivan County SPCA labeled home heating oil truck.
The Sullivan County SPCA is a local non for profit organization which is not affiliated with any national or governmental organizations. The mission of the shelter is to rescue and find forever homes for abandoned dogs and cats. Please keep the Sullivan County SPCA in mind during this season of giving!” They are currently in the process of fund-raising to help build new dog kennels. Check out their website: http://www.sullivanspca.org/ and please make a donation.

Catskill Animal Rescue Benefits
When a vehicle no longer serves our purposes, rather than trade it in, we donate it. You see our vehicles are well maintained by our staff and while they may have higher mileage, they still have a lot of life left.
If you’ve followed the Combined Energy Services’ family for any amount of time, you know that we love animals of all kinds and try to help as many of the people and organizations who take care of them as possible.
We recently donated a service van to the Catskill Animal Rescue, Inc. CARE is a non-profit Animal rescue based out of Sullivan County NY that is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding abused, homeless and abandoned animals forever homes. They also are motivated to educating the public about proper animal care and training.
Pictured receiving the van keys are (L to R) Les Kristt, Joanne Gerow, Mike Taylor & Ron Lindholm. CARE was a previous recipient of a van donation. Unfortunately, the catalytic converter was stolen and then a month later the van was totaled in an accident. This van will really help them out significantly and comes at the perfect time.
We post most of our donatable vehicles on Facebook. Follow us for other vehicle opportunities.
Pike County Humane Society Benefits from a Heating Oil Donation
This year has been a tough year on countless non-profits. Many funding raising events had to be canceled or re-worked, leaving a large number of organizations in financial hardship.
Combined Energy Services tries to do its part by supporting the organizations that care for animals. Over the years, we have donated heating oil and retired service vehicles to the Pike County Humane Society (PCHS). This year is no different. We are please to donate $3,000 in fuel oil.
The symbolic check for $3,000 was presented to Executive Director Barry Heim by the CES Dingmans crew – Dan, Jim, Marla, Tracy, Ed & Chris stand in front of our oil delivery truck with two pups. The camera shy German Sheppard is available for adoption.
The PCHS provides shelter, food, care and medical treament for lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted animals. They also prevent cruelty to animals by educating people in the humane treatment of all animals and teaching about the responsibility of pet ownership.
There are many ways you can give to the Pike County Humane Society. Donate a special skill! They have tons of ongoing projects and programs that can use volunteers. When you go shopping pick up supplies from their wish list or when using Amazon Smile, select the Pike County Humane Society as your chosen charity. Please consider donating to this worthwhile cause.
The importance of where you buy your home heating oil
Recently, one of our services techs sent in a photo of a filthy oil furnace filter. It was dirty. Not just routine dirty but caked with grime and sludge. So much sludge that it was piled up on top of the filter.
The first question was how long ago was this furnace cleaned? He answered – last year. Okay so this was someone who took care of their HVAC equipment. It was cleaned on a regular cycle not 10 years ago.
The next question was what in the world caused this kind of gunk to build up over the course of a year? More than likely the homeowner bought cheap or discounted oil from an unscrupulous oil company. What? Home heating oil isn’t all the same? The answer is a huge NO.
While it’s not as prevalent now as it used to be (and in some areas it’s illegal), some retailers mix waste oil or recycled oil into their home heating oil blends. Used motor oil and other types of used oil can be mixed into your home heating oil. Motor oil is designed not to burn. These additives can clog not only your furnaces nozzle but also create the sludge you see pictured.
This basically deteriorates the efficiency you get from burning clean #2 Heating oil and can wreak havoc on your furnace. The savings you may have realized from purchasing a load of “cheap” oil may very well be eaten up by the cost of replacing your furnace.
The next time you’re tempted to “save” some money, keep in mind that what you save today may very well cost you in repairs and replacements tomorrow. The only thing Combined Energy Services may add to our home heating oil in the winter is an anti-gel additive for home heating oil tanks that are outside. You are getting exactly what you are paying for – #2 home heating oil.
Combined Energy Services delivers more than just High Quality Home Heating Oil. We deliver piece of mind! As one of the most progressive and largest independent fuel suppliers in the region, we strive to be truly a full-service home heating & energy company.
